College Relations
The relationship between a local SHRM chapter and a local student SHRM chapter is essential. While students learn the rules and laws needed to work in the Human Resource field, they are not necessarily engaged in the hands-on work that is required of HR professionals. Local chapters are able to provide opportunities to students by offering programs, networking, recognition, and working with local companies, internship opportunties that allow the student to gain hands-on experience.
SHRM's 2009 College Relations Goals
- Strengthen link to chapter advisors and familiarize yourself with all college relations roles, including student chapter advisor, chapter college relations chair and state college relations director.
- Put college relations on chapter meeting agendas for updates.
- Unbundle workforce readiness and college relations roles into two separate volunteer positions.
- Review chapter bylaws to ensure policies do not prohibit recent graduates from joining your chapter, especially those former students who have no HR work experience.
UTEP-SHRM
In addition to a theoretical education, UTEP-SHRM offers its members hands-on HR experience by working with the El Paso SHRM Chapter. Our support of these students will aid them in developing into the leaders of tomorrow.
UTEP-SHRM Mission Statement
Our Mission is to provide insightful and constructive experiences in the key areas of Human Resource Management and broaden our member's understanding of the field.
